KETAB-E-KARNAMEH
Visual Culture of Iranian Children 1950-1980

2016

"Ketab-e-Karnameh" was printed by Pejman Foundation on the occasion of "Karnameh: Visual Culture of Iranian Children 1950-1980" at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMOCA), an archival exhibition surveying more than three decades of visual creation for children in the context of cultural and sociopolitical transformations in Iran.
The main purpose of a perception specific to its time and place of formation is to resist ideas that tend to erase traces of history in the course of giving shape to the here-and-now. It is therefore imperative to revisit archives, to reorganize them and even establish or initiate new archives as they serve as tools and platforms for gathering individual or isolated materials from the depths of history and reorient them towards the future in fresh arrangements in order to release their potentials for introducing novel insights into the contemporary moment.
Such attitude, paired with a commitment to the development of contemporary art practices in Iran propelled Pejman Foundation to publish "Ketab-e-Karnameh" and to take part in a collective endeavor necessary for vitalizing certain parts of the history of visual cultures in this very context.
